What I'm Listening To

Just finished my emusic downloads for the month and decided it was time to update my Mp3 player. So I thought I'd share with you what I'm listening to. Isn't that what blogs are for, showing off your superior opinion about stuff. Read on and be prepared to be awed.

Calexico - Hot Rail - This was one of my downloads this month. I liked the description on emusic "A bleary Tijuana bar band blanched by the blistering sun, Arziona's Calexico manage to cut straight down to the darkness bubbling at the center of country music"

Flogging Molly - Float - Irish folk punk. This band has been one of my favorites since Natasha introduced their music to me a few years ago. I almost always have something on my mp3 player from them.

Idgy Vaughn - Origin Story - Simply the best country cd to come out in the last few years. Just beautiful. Sure wish she'd come to Little Rock.

Joe Jackson - 25th anniversary Special - hey it's Joe Jackson what more can I say.

Big Smith - Big Rock - Rockin Hillbilly music from the Ozarks. Thanks to David and Capathia for turning me on to them. Amazing live shows.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - I love Rock n Roll - my other emusic download of the month. Have always had a thing for rock n roll chicks.

Lucinda Williams - various tracks - If you don't like Lucinda Williams, you don't deserve ears.

Jerry Jeff Walker - various tracks - His Driftin Way of Life & Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger are the reason I love real country music today. Terrific singer/song writer.

Don't Call Me Shirley - Acoustic EP - Hey you've got to support people you know, especially if they're good. I think these guys are good. I really liked the loud harder live versions of the songs.

Most of the above music can be found on my two favorite places to purchase music.
emusic or cdbaby. Both of these sites support independent music.
give'em a try.

1) I agree on the Lucinda Williams as litmus test for deserving one's sense of hearing.

2) I don't want you to ever use the phrase, "into rock and roll chicks" again.

1) If you like Flogging Molly, check out Flatfoot 56s "Jungle of the Midwest Sea."

2) I think the phrase "into rock and roll chicks" is not only acceptable, but should be considered a compliment.

Well, sure, I agree with you unless, you know, it's coming from your dad.
